Paint for External Walls

Paint for external walls is a type of coating that is specifically designed to be applied on the exterior surfaces of buildings.

It is typically formulated to be durable, weather-resistant, and able to withstand exposure to the elements, including sunlight, wind, rain, and extreme temperatures.

There are various types of external wall paint available, including water-based and oil-based paints.

Water-based paints are more environmentally friendly and easier to clean up with water, but they may not be as durable as oil-based paints.

Oil-based paints, on the other hand, tend to be more durable and provide better coverage, but they may take longer to dry and emit more fumes during application.

When selecting paint for external walls, it is important to consider factors such as the type of surface to be painted, the climate and weather conditions in the area, and the desired finish and colour.

It is also essential to follow proper preparation and application techniques to ensure that the paint adheres properly and provides the desired protection and aesthetic appearance.

External wall paint is usually made up of four main components: pigments, binders, solvents, and additives.

Pigments give the paint its colour, while binders hold the pigment particles together and help the paint adhere to the surface.

Solvents are used to dissolve the binders and make the paint easier to apply, and additives are included to improve the paint's properties, such as its ability to resist fading, cracking, and mildew.

Stabiliser – designed to bind friable or chalky surfaces, providing a suitable and sealed surface for any water-based masonry coating. If the wall is flaking, brush as much off first then use the stabiliser. NOTE: Do not use Unibond or Glue as a substitute for stabiliser.

Topcoat (Smooth Masonry Paint) – this paint provides nearly double the coverage per litre than textured masonry paint, and is quick and easy to apply (using a spray). On a textured surface, you would usually use Smooth Masonry paint however, it can be used on flat walls too.

Topcoat (Textured Masonry Paint) – this type of paint is ideal for hiding cracks and uneven surfaces in the masonry of your property. It is also used on a smooth surface to create a textured effect.

High Build Flexible Paint – provides heavy-duty, flexible, long-term protection and covers small cracks. Ultimately, this paint will give you a uniform finish.
